[ARCHIVED] Westerly Police Department - Citizens Police Academy

The Westerly Police Department is pleased to announce it will conduct a Citizens Police Academy that will begin on Thursday, March 23, 2017. This 10 week program allows citizens to learn and experience the inner world of law enforcement, and a firsthand look at the daily operations of the Westerly Police Department.

The training will consist of classroom instruction, demonstrations, tours, as well as hands-on practical applications. Instructors will be members of the Westerly Police Department to include patrol officers, supervisors, and administrators. Some of the topics to be offered include:

  • Uniformed Patrol 
  • Crime Scene Investigations 
  • Accident Investigations
  • Traffic Codes 
  • K9 Operations 
  • Domestic Violence
  • DUI Enforcement 
  • Firearms Safety 
  • Mock Crime Scene Scenarios

WHO: Citizens who are 18 years of age or older, live or work in the Town of Westerly, and have no prior felony convictions are eligible to attend.


WHEN: The 10 week academy will run from March 23, 2017-May 25, 2017. Classes will be from 6:30 – 8:30 PM on Thursday evenings.


WHERE: Westerly Police Headquarters 60 Airport Rd. Westerly, RI


HOW: Individuals wishing to apply must complete an application. Applications may be downloaded from our website, www.westerlypolice.org, on the Westerly Police Facebook or picked up in the lobby of the Westerly Police Headquarters.


THE APPLICATION DEADLINE IS FRIDAY, February 24, 2017 at 4 PM
