Peter A. Chiaradio currently serves as the Town’s Assistant Director of Public Works.
The Public Works divisions that Peter oversees includes:
- Highway Maintenance
- Facilities Buildings and Grounds Maintenance
- Equipment & Fleet Maintenance
- Recreation Maintenance
- Sanitation/ Solid Waste Management
Peter has worked for the Public Works Department for over thirty-four years. He is actively engaged in his profession by being a member of the Rhode Island Public Works Association and the New England Public Works Association. He has his OSHA 10-hour construction & Safety certification and the National Safety Council Flagger Certification. Peter started with the Town of Westerly in 1988 and held various positions. He started as a Laborer, then Heavy Equipment Operator, Crew Leader, Assistant Superintendent of Public Works, Public Works Superintendent, now his current position of Assistant Director of Public Works. He works directly under the supervision of the Town Manager.
In his role as Assistant Director of Public Works, he is responsible for directing, managing, budgeting, and planning work in all areas of maintenance in the Town of Westerly. This includes but is not limited to construction and maintenance of all town owned property, roads, sidewalks, buildings, grounds, transfer station and drainage infrastructure.
Peter is an exempt employee who has thirty-eight (38) Union employees and five (5) administrative employees under his direction.
Peter was born and raised in Westerly and still resides in Westerly. He has three daughters. One of his daughters is in the Westerly School System, one is in college, and one has her master’s degree from Boston University.
