The Town Council adopted the Town of Westerly 2020-2040 Comprehensive Community Plan on January 20, 2021 and the Plan was submitted to the Rhode Island Division of Statewide Planning for review. Statewide Planning provided comments on the adopted Plan in a letter dated March 26, 2021. Revisions to the Plan were made in response to comments from Statewide Planning, and the revised Plan was subsequently approved by Statewide Planning in a letter dated May 13, 2021. Town of Westerly 2020-2040 Comprehensive Community Plan (State Approved May 2021)
Under Rhode Island General Law (RIGL), and based on findings of the State of Rhode Island (State) as defined in RIGL §45-22.2-3, all municipalities within the State are required to have a locally-adopted Comprehensive Plan approved by the Rhode Island Department of Administration through its Division of Statewide Planning (Statewide Planning).
Route One Corridor Study
The Town of Westerly developed a plan to revitalize the Route One Corridor, which was finalized in 2022. The overall goal of the study was to encourage the type of development that improves functionality and reflects Westerly’s character and charm. The intent is for this plan to be incorporated into the Town of Westerly 2020-2040 Comprehensive Community Plan.
