Animal Control
Westerly Animal Control is part of the Westerly Police Department and is responsible for enforcing Town ordinances as well as State and Federal laws pertaining to animals and animal husbandry.

Assessment Department

Building
The Building Office is the Town's code enforcement office. Rhode Island State Building Codes exist for the protection of the health, welfare and safety of all residents. In order to ensure that no violations exist, routine, daily, on site inspections are made while work is in progress. The Building Official and staff are available to any individual who is seeking advice or answers to specific questions.

Emergency Management
Emergency Management develops, organizes, directs and coordinates the town's Emergency Management Program with the goal of saving lives and protecting property by maintaining emergency operational capabilities that mitigate, prepare for, respond to, and recover from any emergency or disaster.

Engineering
The Engineering department provides accurate and sound engineering advice and support to the Town Manager's Office, other municipal departments, boards and the Town Council. The Department provides, in most cases, in-house engineering for water, wastewater, roads, and stormwater drainage projects. The Engineering Department is the primary office responsible for compliance with drinking water and wastewater regulations. Also, the Department serves as the "Clerk of the Works" for major infrastructure improvements projects town wide which have been designed by design consultant vendors for the Town projects and facilities. It is responsible for project quality control oversight to ensure Town, State and Federal standards are met.

Finance
The Finance Department’s primary responsibilities include maintaining accounting and budget systems for the Town Government, receiving taxes and all other revenues, disbursing all expenditures/payments, issuing any authorized debts, and cash management functions.

o The Human Resources Department is committed to hiring, compensating, and developing the Town's workforce to ensure its ability to serve residents by strategically partnering with Town departments. We are dedicated to the fair and equitable treatment of all individuals whether resident, applicant, or employee by providing support, advice, or guidance in an ethical, courteous and timely manner.

The Town of Westerly Information Technology Department provides technology solutions and services utilized by general government operations. The department is responsible for hardware support, system administration, long range technology planning, software integration, website management and management of the geographic information system.

Municipal Court
The Westerly Municipal Court was established by an act of the Rhode Island General Assembly enacted in 1988. On September 11, 1989 the Westerly Town Council passed an ordinance establishing a Municipal Court for Westerly.

Planning
Westerly's Planning Department oversees land use planning, review of major and minor development projects and subdivisions, community development activities, administration of federal and state grant programs, and other related activities. It provides staff support to a number of different local boards and commissions including the Planning Board. The department's staff includes a town planner, assistant town planner, and an administrative assistant. CDBG activities are handled through a regional Community Development Consortium. The Planning Office is located in the lower lever of Westerly Town Hall.

Town Manager

Zoning
The Zoning Office manages the permitting of all applications for Zoning Certificates, Sign Permits, and Commercial Parking Lots, as well as the processing of Dimensional Modifications and Zoning Board of Review Applications. We provide Staff support to the Zoning Board of Review and also assist in the registration of businesses with the Town (Certificates of Ownership). The Zoning Official's primary responsibility is the review applications for compliance with the Town's Zoning Ordinance.
