During a Hurricane

Hurricane Henri 8/22/2021

The Westerly Animal Shelter will be staffed throughout the duration of the storm.  Those that are needing to evacuate their homes and cannot bring their animals with them, are encouraged to seek family members or friends that may be able to care for your pets.  If this is not an option, you may bring your domestic animals to the animal shelter located at 33 Larry Hirsch Lane. The drop off process is simplified where you will fill out an emergency evacuation impound slip that must contain your name, address, primary phone and a secondary phone as well as your pets name, breed, description and any medicine/allergies.  We supply all food, water and bedding.  You are encouraged to bring your cat(s) in a carrier for safe transport.  We will allow other species as space allows such as  birds, small pets (rabbits, guinea pigs etc.) and strongly recommend  a small cage be brought for them if possible.   This is for Westerly and surrounding communities.

Emergency Pet Sheltering

For emergencies please be proactive and have a plan in place prior to using the Town animal shelter.  Have a kennel or family member lined up and ready to transport in advance of the emergency.  If that is not possible we need them in a carrier well marked with name of the animal and owner.  Additionally, have an index card filled out with name, address and best phone number of owner, name description of cat/dog, list of medications and current rabies vaccination status.
