Blue Cross Blue Shield - RI - Prescription Drug Formulary Changes

Every year in April and October, BCBSRI make changes to their prescription formulary. There will be four types of changes taking place:

1. Brand drugs with available generic equivalents being transitioned to non-coverage. Generic versions are still covered.

2. Tier change notification for drugs moving to a higher-co-pay tier on their assigned formulary.

     a. Tier Changes

3. Formulary exclusion for products with preferred alternative available.

4. Prior authorization designation for select drugs that will now require authorization for coverage.

Individuals who will be impacted by any of the above changes will be notified by mail from BCBSRI. Individuals may receive more than one letter if they are affected by multiple changes.
