The Engineering Department currently manages the Westerly Pump Out Boat Program which utilizes two (2) vessels to service the Pawcatuck River, Little Narragansett Bay and Stonington Harbor areas.  The program is funded in part (75% reimbursement) from a grant from Connecticut DEEP and Town of Westerly (25% in-kind match).  Westerly's pump out boat program is the only Bi-State program within the northeast region. The program employs typically 3-4 seasonal employees as vessel operators, and runs from Memorial Day thru Columbus Day seven (6) days a week (weather dependent). The program collects and legally disposes an average of 50,000 plus gallons of recreational boating vessel wastewater each season.
